Ian qualified as a solicitor in 2000, having started working in the legal profession in 1992. He has held a managing partner role for almost 20 years and during that time developed the business into a 6-branch practice with 80 employees. He has experience in developing and running a Personal Injury department, a Conveyancing Department and started a Commercial department which included insolvency, employment and litigation.
Ian and his fellow partners sold the practice in 2024 and having managed the handover process, Ian is now offering his experience and knowledge as a compliance consultant to owners of legal practices.

Ian built, led, and transformed several legal teams, oversaw complex regulatory matters, managed SRA investigations, and drove sustained commercial growth across the firm. His leadership has included responsibility for compliance, risk management, client money controls, business development, and operational performance across multiple offices and fee earning teams.

- Designed firm-wide compliance framework covering SRA, CQS, AML, & Lexcel
- Developed internal audit processes, file review programmes, & reporting dashboards
- Managed conflicts, capacity issues, AML queries, and SAR reporting
- Responded to court orders, ICO enquiries, and data breach management
- Delivered annual training on AML, conflicts, capacity, and risk awareness
- Managed SRA investigation into former Head of Conveyancing (2016)
- Worked with insurers on claims mitigation and premium reduction
- Worked with SRA during firm acquisitions and orderly closure of 3 law firms
Interest
about me
Ian was a qualified British Cycling Coach (cycle speedway) and for 20 years was chairman of a local cycling club. He also served on a British Cycling Commission for 10 years developing Women’s racing across the country. Ian was the Great Britain Tour Manager from 2009 to 2013 with 2 tours of Australia and a tour of Poland and America.
Since Lockdown Ian enjoys walking and spending time with his grandchildren, he is also a season ticket holder at Sheffield Wednesday and at Sheffield Speedway where he also assists the promotors on match day.
